Hello Everyone

It’s Sunday morning 22 March 2026 and today marks 9 days since Theo has been home, but it has not been without many challenges. Theo is in intense pain, especially on the days when he has been out of bed.

Over these 9 days, we have already been to Paarl twice and Worcester once. Tomorrow we are going to Worcester again, and on Friday we are back in Paarl. Our son Malcolm turns 9 on Friday, and we are praying that Friday’s appointment can be rescheduled. The staples in Theo’s leg were meant to come out this week, but after 20 days the wound had still not fully closed, so we have to go back again.

Dominant Right Hand Broken

The CT scan from last week also showed that Theo’s right wrist — his dominant hand, and currently the only hand he can use — is also broken.

From Our Hearts

We also want to share something from our hearts. Those who know Theo and me know that we do not easily ask for help, and especially not for money, not even from our own parents. It is simply not in our nature. We have the gift of giving, but not of receiving.

We have been overwhelmed by the love and support shown to us. Thank you to every person who has contributed in any way — through the Back-a-Buddy fund, fuel for appointments, meals, essentials, messages, and prayers. We see it all, and we are deeply grateful. But we are now facing new challenges.

Our Immediate Challenges

• Sick Leave Depleted
  Theo’s sick leave will be exhausted by 1 April 2026, and from then until 25 September 2026 we will have to rely only on UIF, without any employer contribution towards the medical fund.
• Medical Savings Depleted
  Our medical savings have been depleted, and at the moment we are paying all medical expenses out of pocket, including medication, X-rays, CT scans, and fuel for travelling to appointments.
  Although our medical aid will cover a basic prosthesis, Theo will need a high-performance prosthesis to be able to function in his work and daily life as he did before. This is something we simply cannot afford ourselves.

We would also like to say a special thank you to Vroue met Vlerke, who blessed our children on Friday with winter school clothes for next term. They have also kindly offered to raise funds for Theo in a way where each person who contributes stands a chance to receive something in return.

This post is truly not easy for us… This is not how we have ever done things, but this is our rock bottom.
