Good morning everyone.
On Friday 13 March 2026, Theo was officially discharged, and we are incredibly grateful.
As the weekend went on, he became more and more exhausted, and by Sunday evening the pain was really starting to speak loudly.
So Monday was a full bed rest day for him.
Yesterday turned into a marathon day of doctors’ rooms — in and out, up and down. We saw the doctor briefly, then went for X-rays of the shoulder blade and shoulder to monitor progress, as well as a CT scan of the right wrist joint, because the pain there is still not improving.
His medication was also adjusted yesterday in an effort to manage the pain better, especially the phantom pain.
We also realised very quickly that the world is not made for wheelchairs. I definitely got a proper workout from all the loading and unloading of the wheelchair.
And then… the low point, or maybe the high point: I had to pull Theo up a terribly steep driveway to a consultation room at a private home, and later push him back down again. Yoh, you all, it was incredibly steep… probably the longest and steepest driveway in the Western Cape! We are VERY thankful it was not caught on camera — it would definitely have gone viral!
It certainly tested our trust in each other!
On Thursday we head back to Paarl — the staples will be removed, and Theo will receive his cone so that the shaping process can begin to prepare his upper leg for a prosthesis.
Then on Monday we are back at the doctor again to hear more about the right wrist joint, as well as the progress with his shoulder and shoulder blade.
Thank you so much for everyone’s support, especially the financial contributions that have been made and the prayers that are carrying us through.
Teresa
